OUR BETTY THINKS SHE`S IN PARADISE
Well after checking out of the hotel at Los Angeles we made our way down to the airport on the shuttle bus and found the Air Pacific check in desk(this airport is huge),anyway Betty was very apprehensive about the flight to Fiji and the thought of what we were going to after having the news of the cyclone passing through the islands. We made enquiries at the check in desk and all they told us was the weather was not good and it got to the stage where the lady said to Betty can you make up your mind soon as we have to get your cases off.So we had a rethink and decided to speak to Fijians that were checking in because they would have obviously been talking to friends and relatives at home and they would have first hand knowledge of the situation,so we spoke to a couple and they reassured Bet that things were OK.The main island where we were going had only been slightly affected.Betty seemed more at ease that was until we saw about fifty teenagers all wearing the same shirts, think she thought it was a relief team!.But they were only going out to do community work.Well the flight went well we had three seats between us so we managed to get a decent rest, now i did have great difficulty trying to explain to Bet that as from when we land in Fiji we would be about 12 hours in front of you back home instead of being 8 hours behind you when we were in America so we lost a day crossing the Pacific(it was a ten and half hour flight but i still don`t know if she`s got it).Anyway when we landed at 6.50am there was a big warm welcome from everyone in the airport, they even had a band playing Fijian music in the arrivals lounge. So we picked up a car from Avis (another white one)and set off for a two hour journey to the coral coast,we were told that you can`t go wrong because it`s the only tarmacked road on the island(and they were right about that). The ride was interesting,we came across cows, horses, goats in the road at different stages and all the buses that were picking up the school kids didn`t have any windows in the sides. But you can not wish to meet more friendlier people than the Fijians ,they just can`t do enough`for you,so after about 2 hours we turned in to the Warwick Fiji Resort and as we wen`t down the drive we were gobsmacked with the beauty of the place. It is right on the beach with two swimming pools ,four restaurants all with their own specialities and the room overlooks the coast, the weather is great ,hot and sunny (i think we are going to like but it may be a big mistake bringing Betty here,i don`t think bed and breakfasts would come up scratch any more)Queenie i think it would be up your street.Well we are off snorkeling now so will try and speak later.Betty and Brian x
